You can be a Sangha Host!
by Rachel Patton
It’s easy to host an event at the sangha. If you have an idea for an event, whether it’s a fundraiser or just a get-together, the process is very simple. This is how I did it. I had an idea for a craft sale, and got the okay to leave my set-up in a corner of the sangha. I sent out an e-mail to the listserv announcing my plans. Many people seemed interested in helping out, so I picked a time when no one was using the space and sent out another e-mail. We had enough participants in the first craft bee to hold a second one and so on… So far the sale itself has raised over $100 but more importantly, it has led to some community building and some outreach through off-site sales.
Money certainly doesn’t have to be your object, if you’d like to host a book club in the space or get people to meet at the center to go for a bike ride or to spend the day helping out with your favorite charity or …? You just need one of the many keys to the door and the desire and commitment to show up and see what happens. What do you like to do? Maybe someone else at the center likes to do it, too! Mention your idea during announcements on Sunday, send it out the Yahoo list-serve, bring it up at Practice Committee, find like-minded folks, and you’re all set.
